What is BlakBits?
Blakbits is a little apparel line Noah Kim (that's me) started. They're always minimal, they're always black on black. It's different because as far as I know, Blakbits is the only t-shirt design that DOESN'T want to be seen.
I design specifically so people can represent themselves out in the world in an "indoor voice", rather than represent a corporate brand with loud designs.
It's what I'd like to wear.
Why black designs on black shirts?
For two primary reasons. First is because I mostly dislike wearing any sort of loud design, whether it's because of the design itself or the color it's printed in. Like many of you, I wear mostly black t-shirts, but figured it would be nice to wear almost-plain t-shirts with designs that are meaningful to me.
Pretty much all graphic shirts end up in the "don't wear anymore" pile for me eventually.
Second, because it's a shout out (do people still say that? I just did) to all of the multi-talented, multi-faceted makers, creators, and problem solvers of the world who are too focused on their craft to tell their stories to everyone they meet. Just like in their subtlety and humility, Blakbits shirts are quiet and unobtrusive, but meaningful.
Who is this for?
Anybody...everybody, but when I created Blakbits, I had a specific sub-set of people in mind. People passionate about their craft and have figured things out on their own. Usually the people I find the most interesting to talk to, and also the people I learn the most from. Respek!
How do you come up with the designs?
Blakbits t-shirt designs are primarily driven by two main ethos.
- Meaning & Reference (i.e. the design itself will mean more to people who understand what it is, and by proxy, people like you).
- Not annoying. This is an extension of simplicity, but Blakbits will never design a shirt that tries to be witty, clever, or is literally a statement (people have to take time to sit there and read your shirt).
The actual designs are usually carefully considered answers to the questions of "how" or "why" people do their craft, and ideas/concepts are crowd sourced before the first design ever gets drafted.
Are you going to make different types of apparel (hoodies, etc.) and new designs?
If fate is kind to Blakbits, absolutely. I'd love to represent different types of craft for all types of people, preferably ones that like to wear black.
I don't see a design that speaks to me, can I request a new one/ I have a dope idea for a Blakbits shirt.
Tell me your story, and I'd love to work with you. If there are enough people with similar interest, I'd be all for it!
Do you have a return policy?
Yup. For any unworn, new condition shirt, you can return with 30 days of purchase. Just contact firstname.lastname@example.org with your order number.
I ordered the wrong size, can I exchange?
Yup. This would be the same process as returning, just contact us for a return and then you can buy the correct size as a new transaction.
